I spent several weeks (and gained several pounds) traveling though Cajun country with Kevin McCaffrey, recording interviews with chefs, lovers of cast iron, farmers and historians.
The food traditions of Louisiana are known around the world — this film intimately captures the people who maintain and innovate these foodways.
Here’s some sound (90 or so seconds) from “A Crooked Line”, a documentary I worked on in 2007 and 2008:
As the cameraman/director and producer were setting up the shot, I taped a man playing flute who was balancing on a log along a waterway.
Some kids showed up to cool off and made this moment as much about the sound of happiness and water as the man playing the flute.
